Last night we visited The Light Show at The Hayward Gallery, seeing some amazing pieces, created by artists using light in different ways to convey their message.

The installations varied from a piece by American artist Jenny Holzer, featuring illuminated text from declassified US Government documents, a series of neon lit rooms by Carlos Cruz-Diez, a mesmerising shadow box by Conrad Shawcross, to the beautiful sparkling drop lighting by Jim Campbell capturing intervals of ghostly human shadows across the lighting.

However the stand out piece for me was ‘Model For a Timeless Garden’ by Olafur Eliasson; a dramatic installation, involving strobe lighting and water fountains. Entering the piece, the viewer is enveloped in darkness, but for the flashes of strobe lighting, transforming the water fountains into a frozen landscape of motionless droplets and creating beautiful stop motion sculptures of water, like sparkling diamonds floating in darkness.
